After a previous thread of suggestions, I am using a 12" square mirror. I sit on the bike, hold it down in my right hand and angle it so I can look down and see the glass. The oil level should be between 1/2 half way to near the top of the glass. The oil should not go above the top of the viewer. There was some disagreement about the following point. I look at the oil level when I return from a ride. I turn it off and wait a minute or two and then look at the level. Some people may look at it cold, I think Suzuki recommends a few minutes warmup.

If I remember correctly other tips included gluing mirrors to the bottom of the frame, home made wood jack, wood under the kickstand, kneepads, a second person holding the bike, ...
